Unfortunately carpet beetles are more or less exactly what they sound like. Adult beetles have different sizes and colors but most are between one tenth of an inch and three sixteenths of an inch long. Their larvae are grublike and covered with hairs. The most prevalent and popular one is however the carpet beetle.

When with the advent of warmer weather carpet beetle adults started showing up here more regularly i found a glass container with a good lid an old butter dish and started keeping them alive on my desk. They may look mottled with black brown and white or be solid black depending on the species. Carpet beetles are common and can be difficult to prevent completely no matter how diligent you are about cleaning.
