The dessert fork is the closest to the dinner plate.
Place a dinner plate in the centre of the setting and lay forks to the left of the plate and knives and spoons to the right.
Again cutlery should be about 1 inch out from the edge of the plates.
The rule of thumb is the place mat should begin about 1 inch from the edge of the table.
Place all forks to the left of the dinner plate.

Place your cutlery in the order that it will be used starting from the outside.
